Physiotherapy for back pain

First things first-I'm going to declare my bias. I think for most people, Physiotherapy is a reasonable option for back pain.

However, more often than not people divert to seeing a chiropractor.

I am not a chiropractor and have a limited understanding of what they do as I don't work in that world. While I have great respect for the excellent job they do in treating back pain and other things, but I am going to simply state my case as to why a physiotherapist may be an option for your back pain.

Physiotherapists are rehab specialists, but that does not mean we give you 55 exercises and send you home!!

It means we find the key to what makes you feel best and different ways to maintain it. As a physiotherapist, the goal is to discharge you as soon as you're feeling better.

We are both manual therapists, as well as rehab specialists, which means we can do all the fun hands on stuff that makes you feel good coupled with the follow up for home.

Many people suffering from acute low back pain are looking for instant relief, and physiotherapists CAN provide this.

I frequently treat clients who will see myself and a chiropractor and a Massage Therapist and I'm more than happy to work in that environment. I actually think collaboration is helpful. I also like communicating with your personal trainer, or your yoga instructor, or whoever is important in your physical world. Most physiotherapists, are happy to do this. We can also talk to your doctor and if you need further testing can advocate on your behalf.

Eighty percent of people will suffer from back pain in their lifetime. So the next time you or a family member or a friend has back pain, consider physiotherapy for you choice of treatment.
