Kegel weights-make sure you know why you're using them
Guys, you might not be interested in this one because Iām gonna talk about Kegel Balls.
I was very kindly gifted these by a company called Bodyotics. They're based out of the UK, and are Pear Drops Kegel weights that come in six different weights.
We had a little bit of fun with them in the clinic last week. Don't worry, I know what you're thinking we were just seeing how they felt. These are really nice. They're silicone, they're soft, and what is really great is they have varying weights. And I do like Kegel weights from time to time. But before you go out and buy them, boys and girls, I do recommend you see a pelvic floor physiotherapist first.
You want to make sure first of all that you know how to do a Kegel correctly. We know that the only way to check that you know how, is to have a digital exam. This means someone going internally with their finger and checking that you can do the lift and squeeze piece.
Pelvic floor physiotherapists are the people who are qualified to do that. If you don't have someone in your area, send me a message, and I'll help you out with that.
The purpose of using these, there's twofold.
One is to improve your strength and add a bit of resistance to that. So the same way as you would if you were doing any kind of exercise.
And the second thing is it can also help your awareness. So some people can't really feel if they're doing the exercise correctly. And this can actually help the sensation and help the awareness.
So these are really nice, they're nice and soft, they're smooth. They also come in a really nice color, nice shape. I like the shape rather than like a round shape, which is like the Ben Wa balls that were really popular thanks to 50 Shades of Grey. But these are actually more contoured and better for the vagina.
So I would highly recommend looking for something like this shape. This company's actually over the UK, so it might be a bit harder for my Canadian friends to get. But they are available on Amazon so you can have a look or get in touch with the company directly.
We also have some other companies that make a good version of Kegel weights.
But like I said, before you rush out to buy Kegel weights, make sure you know why you're using them, what your goal is, and that you've been assessed by a pelvic floor physiotherapist to make sure they're appropriate for you.
